I’ve been back in New York for the past few weeks—essentially from Fashion Week to Armory Week, with the Whitney Biennial sandwiched between—and I’ve seen so much art that I’m not sure where to begin. To make things more interesting, my camera started giving random error messages, and I haven’t had time to have it serviced, rendering void my usual tactic of posting tons of pics rather than taking the time to politely word actual opinions.

So basically I’ll hit the high points—if something stuck with me, obviously it’s significant enough…right?

It's unlikely that glossy prints of these NBA game photos will ever be found hanging in a Chelsea or Culver City gallery, but to me they're some of the most interesting photos on the web on any given day. These in particular are from last night's Knicks/Bucks tilt, found in Yahoo! Sports' NBA photo gallery, and on nba.com.

NBA and Getty Images photographer Nathaniel S. Butler uses a combination of flash and filter to achieve the  effect, which is somehow both beautiful and absurd. Beautiful in terms of color, contrast and frozen motion; absurd because it's grown men in shiny green and red shorts.

(Doubly absurd because the Knickerbockers pathetic post defense made Andrew Bogut look like the second coming of Hakeem Olajuwon...)
