NYC art weekend
Thursday June 03, 2010

I left L.A. over the last weekend and took a holiday to the shitty on the east coast.  Checked out Shepard's show at Deitch, Mark Ryden's at Paul Kasmin (super dope)...Hit up Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and Ice Cube was on to promote his new TBS tv show, Are We There Yet? ( a spinoff of the  film).  And yes, he warmed up the crowd with Straight Outta Compton with The Roots - they learned all the parts and they played the whole damn ditty - it was sweeeeeeet.  Had great times that night out with World's Best Ever Dave on the Vanderbilt and  recovered enough the next day to go to Yankees Stadium and watch the Indians wallop on 'em (go Dodgers!).  After the game, walked down the street to show my bf a mural I love and found that the city of NY is building a brand new skate park in front of it and another across the street was done already! Those Bronx kids are stoked!  In fact, they couldn't wait for it to be officially open - the one was just finished 3 days prior to me being there, and those kids had already busted the fatty padlock on the gate.  Scooter crews rule!

The next few days were spent at MOMA.  I had to see the Henri Cartier-Bresson retrospective, which was life-changing for me...plus I witnessed the Marina phenomenon that took over NY.  Check Marina Abromovic out - the exhibit just ended but there is plenty of interactive content on that site to bring you up to speed. The chick is cool.  The Artist is Present piece she did was huge, tons of people in attendance all weekend and I heard it was a mind-bending time for those directly involved in the staring exercise.  A shout out also to the dope Pictures by Women: A History of Modern Photography exhibit up - awesome images by chicks with cameras.  Speaking of which, I took lots of photos I wanted to share...

this park across the street  is coming soon too
