I have always been a fan of ballcaps, particularly unique and whenever possible rare caps.  A few years back I learned of a small company in Cherry Valley, New York called the Cooperstown Ball Cap Co., which was run by a woman, Susan Whitmore.

The website offers only a few actual photographs of  caps they produce while the majority of their deep catalog offers illustrations of the caps and colors. One of the most impressive things is the amazing collection of authentic historical caps, not only from Major League Baseball(including its earliest years) but also a plethora of caps from throughout the history of minor league, amateur, armed forces, Literary(yes you can get the same Bad News Bears cap as worn by Walter Mathieu), Native American, Railroad, Trans-Carribean leagues and my favorite,  Institution Leagues...

Jesse Pollock has always been nice to me when I see him in San Francisco. I happen to love his work, whether it be his music or photography, or publishing, and now, the books are sure to deliver.

I grew up with Scott Greenwalt in Webster Groves, Mo. Scott and his family lived right next door to this particular family who always created the most elaborate and intense christmas light displays in St. Louis.  Cars would line up for miles to drive by Scotts neighbors house, and I always wondered what effect it was having on the Greenwalt family.  I'm not sure if Scott Greenwalts newest show, Studies of Mutation, is some sort of aftereffect from all the christmas light hubub. Either way, it's good to see Scott having a new show.

Stockholm is proud to present, Studies of Mutation, an exhibition of works by Scott Greenwalt , from November 7th - December 5th.  Greenwalt's body of work includes over twenty acrylic paintings on canvas expressing intimate celebrations of abnormality and imperfection.  Please join us for the opening reception on November 7th from 7-11 pm at 1125 Folsom St, with musical accompaniment by Death Cheetah and Turd Cutter.

Through his macabre paintings, Greenwalt seeks to peel back the veneered surface and magnify the grotesque.  His paintings depict abstracted versions of crooked teeth, asymmetrical faces, thinning crops of hair, and scarred flesh which are set on the canvas as if a subject placed under a glass box for preservation.  Their color palate ranges from neutral browns and blacks to spreads of rich varying color streams set on a black background. These images extend beyond the typical realm of visual art, by presenting a study on the human psyche. Greenwalt is fascinated by the phenomenon of repulsion and the impulse to turn away from sensory input found to be disquieting, which is frequently coupled with a morbid curiosity to witness the very thing that has been turned away from. The psychological underpinnings that make an image appear simultaneously attractive and repellent continues to drive Greenwalt's work.

Scott Greenwalt, born in St. Louis, MO, received his BFA at the University of Central Missouri and his MFA at California College of the Arts.  While studying at UCM, he was awarded "Best of Show", for the  Juried Citation Student Awards Show.  Since graduating, Greenwalt has had four solo shows, in California and Missouri.  He has exhibited in several Bay Area group shows at galleries including Space Gallery, 111 Minna, LoBot and Hotel Biron. Greenwalt currently resides in San Francisco.
