A few things of note here. One, it is always impressive to follow a real photographer's Instagram. Two, it is always interesting to follow a professional photographer's Instagram when they are in a very foreign environment. JR, the famed French social activist, Public Artist, and photographer (plus cover of the May 2012 Issue of Juxtapoz) has been Instragramming straight from North Korea, with some incredible photos of everyday life and various cultural sites. And of course, beautifully composed. Read More

Francesca Woodman's retrospective from SFMOMA, is now showing at the Guggenheim Museum and is the first comprehensive survey of the artist’s brief but extraordinary career to be seen in North America. More than thirty years after her death, the moment is ripe for a historical reconsideration of her work and its reception. Woodman’s oeuvre represents a remarkably rich and singular exploration of the human body in space and of the genre of self-portraiture in particular... Read More

Loving this photo of Ari Marcopoulos' that is one his show flyer for Here And Now at V1 Gallery in Copenhagen, Denmark. And just as Ari wanted, this new exhibition features works only from the, wait for it, here and now. As V1 writes of the famed photographer, "In Here and Now he (Ari) wanted to just show his work from 2012, and most of the prints, as can be seen from the date stamp in the lower-right hand corners, are from March this year." I'm going to be straight up here and go first person: I don't like snakes. They freak me out. I totally understand how beautiful they are in their prehistoric skin, and they way they move is elegant and interesting (if you like death staring you in the face and slithering quicker than you can run). Having said that... these photos have led me to a new respect for the artistic nature of a snakes skin. That might be it, though. Read More

Few photographers create the cinematic scenery that Alex Prager depicts in her work. Part film noir, part Wizard of Oz circa 2025, Prager has taken an aesthetic and made it one of the most recognizable in the world of contemporary photography. That is hard to do in this day and age. Right now, her Compulsion series is on simultaneous display at three galleries: Michael Hoppen Gallery, London until May 26, at New York’s Yancey Richardson Gallery until May 19, and M+B Gallery, LA until May 12. This breathtaking body of photographs taken by Nadav Kander has won him the Prix Pictet prize back in 2010 as well as our adoration. Its best we allow Kander to explain the project in his own words (below is merely an excerpt from a longer statement) and then let the photos tell the rest of the story through their beautifully minimal compositions and seductively subdued hues. Roxanne Werter is 20 year old UK based art student. Her work tends to the variety of voyeuristic romanticism, subtle b&w narrative and daily pursuits of simple living.
