Juxtapoz Blog

PaperMonster is a stencil graffiti artist whose vivid and intricate pieces explore the beauty behind the eyes and facial expressions of women. Born in Puerto Rico, PaperMonster incorporates stencil and pasting techniques to create pieces of art on any surface by incorporating pop culture icons, Asian typography, patterns and texture to present vibrant emotions and stories. His work allows the audience to take his creations for pure face value or explore deeper into each piece.

I recently had the pleasure of chatting with Monkee Design (HERE) for an interview on all things new and old with my art. Monkee Design is an industrial design and student resource blog and during the interview we discussed everything from my mindset when creating paintings, the materials I use, what shows are in store for 2010, resources for students interested in urban art and stencil graffiti, and advise for young people with the desire to create. My favorite part of the interview is that it goes through some of my past work and you can see the evolution in style and quality of the paintings that has taken place through time. You can read the entire interview for yourself over at Monkee Design: PaperMonster Interview (HERE) or click on any of the image below. http://www.monkeedesign.com/interviews/2010/2/2/papermonster.html

“I think the main thing is to not limit yourself to what materials you use whether they are physical materials or computer tools and programs. Don’t get stuck in “Oh I only use a certain spray paint brand or Photoshop or Oils,” because you can really box yourself in and prevent some real discoveries for yourself. It helps you we well rounded and better prepared for future opportunities or challenges that may come.” -PaperMonster

“When I first started to paint I had no supplies or resources, and it is the support of people who have purchased my work, provided me with opportunities to show and encouraged me to continue to create that I have been able to make better quality work. I can not thank people enough for how much I appreciate their support. Never forget people that have been by your side since the beginning. “-PaperMonster

It is February and that means two things: Winter/Crazy Cold and Valentine’s Day!! Some of my favorite things for this month are gift ideas for Valentine’s day including free tv  shows online, red shoes, and as always a ton of great games to pass the time and relax. You will feel the love of February with any of these gifts in your hands! Enjoy PaperMonster First up we have the final season of LOST. If you are like me and have been watching LOST for many seasons you know your mind just goes for a loop the entire time trying to figure out what will happen next. You can watch the latest episodes for Season 6 for FREE over at http://abc.com/ Thankfully if you missed most or all of the seasons of Lost you can just read summaries or info on LOST and all the madness at http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page or watch the final season every Tuesday night on ABC.
Next we have the perfect Valentine’s gift because men deserve gifts too on V-day called the Nike: Auto Flight High “Kill Bill” colorway(HERE) You can find more info on the shoe here http://extrabutterny.com/shoe_store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=1100
or click on the image above to view all three views of the shoes. Happy Valentine’s Day!

Followed by my favorite shoes of this month we have one of my FAVORITE games and it is none other than Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars (HERE) on the iPhone and iPod Touch. This game is on $9.99 and you can play it for hours whether you are stealing your favorite cars or completing sidemissions such as jetski races or buying new apartments you will not be dissapointed with the quality and fun of this game. For more on GTA: Chinatown Wars for the iPod/iPhone visit: TouchArcade.com

Finally we have two of my favorite games. Now when I write about games my emphasis is on the quality. Why spend $50 for something that is not worth the money of the time? These two games are definately worth the cash. First we have Capcom Vs. Tatsunoko for the Wii (HERE) . This game has been recently released in the US and you have to see and play it for yourself to know how wild the game is. It features head to head combat between characters from both the Capcom and Tatsunoko franchise. Check out the video below or visit http://www.gametrailers.com/game/tatsunoko-vs-capcom-ultimate/10355

for more info and a great review of the game.

Lastly we have one of the largest games of 2010 so far. Mass Effect 2 for the Xbox360 (

One of the single most amazing part about being an artist is that you never know where you will have an impact on someone and how far your art will travel and touch people. My art travels the globe and interacts with hundreds of people that I may never meet in my lifetime and that in itself is pretty magical. Check out some new photos of PaperMonster stickers in a rice field and mountainous region of Indonesia for yourself and see what I mean. They are beautiful. Many Thanks To Fiky For The Amazing Photos.
