Back Talk—Yosuke Ueno

Current

Sunday April 24, 2011

Yosuke Ueno comes from Japan but might be from another planet. His themes are very cosmic and he's also known as SpaceEgg77. His palette of colors is otherworldly and his themes range from Anne Frank looking down on earth from the heavens to cosmic ducks and magic mushrooms. Bizarre, surreal and thought provoking, conjuring images from another galaxy are words that come to mind. A conversation after the jump . .  .

Current

Sunday April 24, 2011

A few weeks back, we showed you a collection of installations by German artist, Heike Weber, and we just saw that she has a new installation piece, "Net," up at CAP Cologne. Something about the way Weber works, she gets this amazing 3D effect, even just using acrylic on wall like she is here with "Net." More looks after the jump . . .

The Like "Wishing He Were Dead" Video

Current

Saturday April 23, 2011

Generation after generation, youth have clung to the idealism and style of our recent history, kids born in the 90’s wearing band tees that they were clearly not alive to watch tour. It’s pretty clear this style has caught a hold of our society, surviving the fast paced movement of American culture. Frankly, if hipster vintage trending and high fashion is remaking and re-buying everything from the last 5 decades, we think it’s apparent this is a well-accepted and attractive style. Japanese-born, Berlin-based Chiharu Shiota creates beautiful, and at times difficult, installations and full-on scenes. A lot of the work involves beds and other everyday objects. In one rather striking piece, she has taken hospital beds and arranged them to lift as if to the heavens. More after the jump . . .
