Lawrence Cyril White, an emerging artist from Port Angeles, Washington, with questions and an honest outlook on life. An artist in which I believe in. His questioning mind and honesty are reflected in his artwork and words. Lawrence recently states “I am an artist that is in it for the love of what I do, to me everything that comes out of my brain is a reflection of my art. My inspirations come from everything I see, hear, taste, and feel. I haven't by any means even come close to doing all that I want to do with my art but by the time I am done here I will.” I recently had an opportunity to dig around in the mind and soul of Lawrence Cyril White in the interview posted below:
What is your complete artist name?
My complete artist name is "Lawrence Cyril White"... or unless someone has a better idea...
LOL, let’s stick with Lawrence Cyril White. Lawrence, how did you get started creating art?
Well it’s a long story but I will keep it super short. My mother has always been into arts, not like one of those crazy moms who are always doing some sort of "craft" to pass the time and not like one of the ones who go to every show and always have a crazy critic for everything. She was the type that would sit alone in a room with a pack of cigarettes and a bottle of vodka, creating from her soul and never accepting that her work was beautiful. So this was my first taste of art.
Then I started to fall in love with the life of skateboarding at age ten. This is where I found that there was a whole art form to the sport and the product. So I would spend hours just looking at the boards loving every minute of it.
Then in the 6yh grade I was put into an art class, after about a week the teacher ("Miss Heartman" I believe) pulled me aside and told me that there was something different about me and showed me the world of Graffiti...That was the only art class I have ever taken.

Some people have a hard time expressing themselves and keep everything bottled in. When you have the skill to create art and have a lot of emotion or thoughts in your mind, how does that state of mind trigger you to create art?
Well I have been on an emotional roller coaster sense I was a child, and I have heard it’s been all in my head but that's my own problem. I don't know if I could actually answer this one, but I do know that 90% of my artwork is strait emotion and the other 10% is because someone wanted something just so. So to me the real way for me to get my mind out of my head and on to whatever wants it is to listen to good mood music... I do not do much without it. It almost seems to be the only thing that keeps me solid.
Music has the same effect on me. Sometimes I put on my headphones and allow myself to write. The music takes me on a journey. At times when I finish, I realize I get so caught up in the music that I don’t even remember what I wrote. Does that ever happen to you when you are zoning out to music and creating art?
That is exactly what happens to me. I turn up the music of choice and let it take hold of my soul, pretty much just letting the music consume my emotions.
What music are you listening to right now?
Wow right now? Well it’s a good mix of "the cure b sides", "Silver sun pickups" and Octane on xm...
You mentioned earlier, there was a whole art form to skateboarding and in the product in itself, whose skateboard designs caught your eye when you were younger and why?
To answer your question the one that started for me I believe was "Sean Cliver" although there were and are so many Great artists in the skateboard culture.
Tell me more about your art Lawrence. What is your style? What mediums do you use?
Quite frankly I have no idea what to call my art besides mine. It almost seems that if I were the one to label my art it might be wrong or then my styles would change as they often do sending it to some crazy new life. As for my mediums... I use a lot of acrylic, arousal, house paint, floor paint, car paint, some oil paint, and the list goes on from there... I love to create no mater what I use, and most often then not I'm not picky.
What are some of your favorite pieces you created and why?
Honestly I would really have a hard time answering that one…I would have to say "PenLeg" just because it was the beginning of it all…and the first time I used a live model... and she’s still here..Hahaha
