A new water color:

Greetings from Los Angeles, CA!

I've been doing a lot of water colors during the day recently because I don't really like painting until late at night. But, I always like working so I developed a schedule of painting water colors most of the day. Water colors feel much freer and have such a ghostly effect. I hope I can show 111 or so of them all at once some day. The image above is on 16x20 inch paper.

Last Thursday, I had the fashion show event I keep mentioning. I can't say the event totally went off without a hitch but it was a really successful night and I think everyone who attended enjoyed themselves. The show ended up being almost exclusively the couture pieces designer Jared Gold had made inspired by my paintings. Looked amazing.

We also have 15 or so 'for-sale' items that you can only see on his website (www.jaredgold.com) until they are totally ready to be released for sale before this Winter. Here are some preparatory designs Jared made when developing the clothes.  The ones I'm picturing here are some of my favorites:

the 'balloon dress'

the leggings

the evening dress

the coat - with black butterfly drips

So, though the for-sale items pictured above are one thing - Jared also went out of his way to design one-of-a-kind pieces to be displayed the one night of the show only.  And, in front of a wonderfully colorful crowd featuring a few rock stars, TV stars, Hollywood's most colorful, etc., the models floated across the runway wearing some ingenious and colorful designs. I am incredibly fortunate to have had my art be featured in this way. Fashion photography has always been an integral part of my process but I never expected to be a part of the fashion before the photo shoot.

Glimpse of the runway

Can't see them all here but I painted 3 faces on the front of this coat..

and a butterfly on the back

I spent days hand painting that butterfly design onto this denim jacket. I love the way it turned out. Like some psychedelic Art Nouveau..

Note to self: denim is not the easiest material to paint on. But, I guess I can always make a living painting butterflies on people's jeans or jean jackets on the beach if need be.

Evening Dress - original sketch pictured in prep drawings above (see Baseman having fun in the background ha)

AnnaLynne McCord from BevHills 90210 received tons of attention in the front row and from some paparazzi outside. The paparazzi left when she did though, haha.

I have to thank Cyn Yen for taking such great photos and for letting me use them! Here is Cyn and myself.

I spent most of the time nervously pacing in the corner and drinking booze so I didn't manage to take many photos myself. CliquesPhotoBooth provided a backdrop of my paintings for people to be photographed in front of. There were lots of friends and some people I really admire in the crowd and that was especially amazing for me. I pulled these from their website to show you more of the crowd..

Event Hosts: My friend Clint Catalyst with Audrey Kitching

Tim Biskup (who was rad enough to DJ too), his gf friend Nicki, Gary Baseman, Marion Peck, and Mark Ryden

Korin Faught and Carlos Ramos

My friend and model, La Larva

other interesting guests..

Giddle Partridge, one of the event hosts

Good friends I pictured in my last blog, Robert and Suzanne, and other good friends Natalia Fabia, and Gary Baseman.

You see why I put my water color first? I honestly like art more than parties but how can I compete with pictures of that colorful crowd? Thank you everyone who came and thanks to all those who helped.

And, lastly, here is me, now, about to work on the painting behind me - part of my next solo show, April 2010.  Work work work work...until dinner at 7.

Have a good day everybody and thanks for checking out my blog!

what an awesome honor to have your work displayed in such a way. Always a plus to have exposure in a completely different venue... some people wouldn't otherwise have the chance to view your work. Kudos! smilies/grin.gif
