Jillian Mackintosh enjoys the independent creative life in San Francisco. She travels around the city streets on her sea foam green bicycle to artists studios, exhibits and receptions, fueled by French pressed coffee and noodles from her favorite Tenderloin Thai restaurant. When she is not scribbling fine words onto paper, about upcoming artists exhibiting at The Shooting Gallery, White Walls and Gallery Three, you can find her curating exhibits of her own at 666 Gallery.

Shooting Gallery News did an interview with Kevin E. Taylor in anticipation of Terrestrial Syndrome opening Saturday, September 12th. Kevin, being a good friend of mine has an amazing gift for making people smile, dance and get creative. As an art enthusiast and visual person all together I think sometimes images can say so much more than words ever could.

We've had this little inside joke around the office about a youtube video my friend showed me the other day, and I can't help but let everyone know how awesome it is. I'm not sure if its true but he told me that the video is a recording of some dude locked in a closet on acid, rambling to himself. Either way, the insanity plus the awesome computer animation just makes my day.

Eli Harris is next up at 666 Gallery. From cafes to park benches, Harris’s work explores the daily nuances of city life and the people who inhabit our streets. Here is a sneak peak at some of his artwork you might see in Banal Obsessions Friday, September 18th, 2009.

Over the years, Rich Jacobs has surveyed the existence of both figurative and abstract art. Through a mix of drawings and paintings, his new exhibit "Searching by flashlight, for the bright spots on your brain, and such" reveals the expressive part of himself. I was able to spend some time with Rich and get to know him and his art a bit more. His new exhibit at White Walls Gallery opens September 12th and I for one, am eager to see his installation and most recent works.

Rich Jacobs works free form with no end result in mind. He starts to draw and lets the expression be his result. His art mixes raw, organic form with detailed, tight, pattern based figures. Jacobs abstract pieces are expressive, uncontrolled and free flowing. Repetitive shapes use a visual language of form, line, and color, impulsively capturing the strange and beautiful. Without referencing a naturalistic entity, his work translates it’s own form, creating a composition that exists independently from reality.

“No matter what your usual style, this is your chance to get down with classic car culture. This means pinups, tattoos, tikis, pin striping, hot rods, and most importantly: vintage. Anything and everything retro will fly, so take a stroll back to the 40s, 50s and 60s for inspiration. Donated artwork will be auctioned off to benefit the Bay Area Women’s & Children’s Center. On the evening of the event, September 26, all art will be hung in White Walls Gallery. Please deliver submissions to White Walls between Tuesday, September 22- Saturday, September 26. Contact the gallery beforehand to schedule drop offs.”- White Walls
