Jillian Mackintosh enjoys the independent creative life in San Francisco. She travels around the city streets on her sea foam green bicycle to artists studios, exhibits and receptions, fueled by French pressed coffee and noodles from her favorite Tenderloin Thai restaurant. When she is not scribbling fine words onto paper, about upcoming artists exhibiting at The Shooting Gallery, White Walls and Gallery Three, you can find her curating exhibits of her own at 666 Gallery.

As the week meets its half way point for most of us working the art fair scene, the crowds are growing and the nights are getting longer. It's been a crazy experience roaming opening receptions, after parties, sneaking in to exclusive events and late night dips in the warm Atlantic Ocean. Aqua Wyndwood Art Fair has been a hot spot for art collectors and enthusiasts from around the world. If you haven't seen enough art on the internet already or heard the last of your friends rubbing in how much your missing out on, here's a bit to graze over.

From White Walls Booth

Mike Shine built a mini house in the White Walls booth, fully equipped with lava lamp, video installation and as much art as the walls can hold.

This week The Shooting Gallery has transformed into a full blown studio space for Steve Powers, formally known as ESPO. Its been interesting to see an entire collection come together in only a few short weeks, but for this artists its surely the norm.

ESPO

The artist "arguably" best known as ESPO (meaning Exterior Surface Painting Outreach)  has recently been on the radar for his rooftop murals in Philly as well as huge art installations in galleries such as Dietch Projects, Collette and Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Aside from his successful career as a professional gallery artist, he is also a Fullbright scholar, a participant in the 49th Venice Biennale, and author of two artist books.

Tomorrow is the big night for the opening reception of Charmaine Olivia's Urban Menagerie at Gallery Six. During the installation process I came to realize how truly gifted this artist really is. Studying oil painting under her grandmother from as early as five years old, Charmaine has evolved to embrace her own unique esthetic. Although she has an established following throughout the US, Germany, Sweden, Norway and Denmark, this will be  he first solo exhibition at age 21.

Charmaine uses a combination of loose figurative painting, detailed pen and ink drawings and mixed media collage. Her portraits are beautifully rendered with warm earth tones complimented by bight patterns and colors. Surprisingly she has no professional training in art, and opted out on art school contending the impact it would make on her work.
