The Trading Tortoise is a traveling art project created by illustrator Souther Salazar & Monica Choy with the goal of creating a unique community experience while exploring America through objects and stories. The plan is to make a sculptural installation (in the form of a large tortoise-shaped trading post) that we can set up at different stops throughout the nation. Could this be any more adorable?!

Artist Kelsey Brookes’ latest exhibition “Meditations on Symmetry” was recently on view at The Compound Project in Malibu, CA. Eliminating the figurative elements of his past work, this show finds Brookes favoring symmetrical abstract patterns and words, each painting a pool of concentric electric color. Check out this video that Kelsey posted on YouTube, giving a walkthrough of the show.
PurifiedDirector and veteran feature animator Ryan Woodward has finally realized a lifelong dream with "Bottom of the Ninth," an animated graphic novel app exclusively for iPad and iPhone. By animating key panels in the serialized comic's story arch, Woodward blurs the line between still and moving image, adding kinetic value without diminishing the unique expressive power of the graphic novel. The series' prologue will be available in May 2012.
Illustrator extraordinaire, Matthew Houston, fits right in with the other comics and artists over at Meathaus, a loosely defined collective of friends and associates contributing to irregular comics and art anthologies and an art-blog-website with a special emphasis on drawing, sketchbooks and comics. I love his raw, gore-based illustration work but the scope of what he is capable of exceeds that tremendously.
