This time, I'm really kicking myself in the head as I completely forgot to put up the shots from Angie Mason and Kristen Ferrell's terrific two-women show at the Parlor Gallery in Asbury Park, which, alas, closed tonight. I guess it's better late then never.

FoRead More...

Tattoos x Sunny Buick

Last Friday, I spent six hours chatting with Sunny Buick as she worked on my Tiki tattoo. I swear, she is the most innovative tattooist out there, and I love the fact that she can easily translate her canvas artwork onto skin. I've always wanted to interview her while she's tattooing me, but the pain usually leaves me just babbling or quiet. That said, she has the gentlest hands in the industry and getting tattooed by her is definitely a positive experience.

After a quick stint at ElecRead More...

Mark Dean Veca: Video Portrait #4

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to spend a few minutes chatting with Mark Dean Veca about the new artwork he created for his solo show at Jonathan LeVine Gallery. Veca was a staple of the New York art scene until he packed up his family and headed West last year, so it was a pleasure to sit down with him and catch up on what he's been up to.

I apologize in advance about the sound. The batteries in my mic went dead as we were taping and I had to use the onboard mic wRead More...

Murderous Housewives

A few weeks back, my good friend Nicole asked me to shoot some photos of her for a Mad Men contest that AMC was running to promote the new season. At the time, I had never seen an episode, but I was aware that the series took place in the early '60s and everyone on the show is dolled up in swank outfits. I thought it would be cool to do a spoof on the name and have mad women (or in this case, murderous housewivesRead More...

Hailing from somewhere east of the Atlantic, the dear Doktor has been churning out custom toys based on some of the greatest creatures that ever existed---Frankenstein, DRead More...

Gallows: Video Portrait

I've been photographing rock bands for some 15 years now, but I always wanted to do more with video. After years of pussyfooting around, I finally got a compact HD video camera with a cockamamie plan to do video portraits of artist, musicians, and underground heroes. I basically want to combine still images from portrait shoots with short, first-person interviews with the artists. So far the results have been mixed, but I'm still experimenting.

This past weekend, I got the change Read More...

Julius Shulman 1910–2009

The photo world just lost one of its masters. According to the Los Angeles Times, photographer Julius Shulman died yesterday from being really freaking old.

Shulman is best known for his architecture photography. I look at a room or a house and I just see a box. This man could look at building and turn a photo of a wall into a work of art. He spent most of his life documenting the modernist movement on the West Coast, photographing hundreds of homes made of steel, glass, and corners shRead More...

WK Interact: Motion Portrait Q&A

Last week, I got the chance to video tape WK Interact's Q&A at Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York City. The event was technically a book signing, but WK took the stage and delivered a helluva speech about what it's like to be both a street artist and a fine artist.

I did a short interview with him prior to the signing, which I'll try to get up on the site in a few days. The sound quality on this video is shaky at best, but I think he gets his point across.
