Pork Chop & Squindo

Don't you just love scheduling business trips to overlap with awesome gallery openings? Last weekend, I attended the opening of Squindo and Pork Chop's two man show at Art N Soul Gallery in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The gallery doubles as a giant tattoo parlor—a perfect location for two artists that spend most of their days slinging ink through tattoo machines.

Pork Chop is best known for huge pastel-colored paintings on plywood featuring lifelike sketches of beautiful and powerful women,  sullen gentlemen, squids, and skulls. His fine-line portraits are stunning, and the contrast between the gray drawn figures and colorful backdrops is both original and extremely impressive.

On the other end of the spectrum, Tony Squindo works his magic using different stains on wood. His attention to detail using such a difficult medium is staggering, and the hotrods and pin-ups he produces are just badass in every way. For the Art N Soul show, Squindo also designed a series of hand painted skateboards begging for mass production and a ton of his sketches.

The opening was packed, and let me tell you, tattoo artists aren't quite as excited to have their photo taken as the New York art scene set. Here are few shots of the artists and their work.

I'm working on getting the two together for a video portrait/interview in the next few weeks.
