Hajdu Bence's Vacated Masterpieces

October 23, 2012

Architectural space frames and guides the average urban lifestyle, providing the forums through which we move, interact and live. In these vacated masterworks originally painted by Jacques-Louis David, Leonardo Da Vinci, and Fra Angelico, Hajdu Bence opens up the space, allowing us to see it stripped of its character-driven narratives, removing our attention from the animated figures that dominate the composition towards the organization and framing of space. Because of the iconic nature of these paintings, one cannot help but project the original image back upon it, resulting in a chilling feeling of emptiness and desolation, as if the scenes are already passed and the action already gone.
