“Caur”, writes Juxtapoz Brazil correspondent and artist William Baglione, “is the very soul of Brazilian street graffiti.” On the streets of Sao Paulo, where the rift between the mayor and the graffiti community stops just short of an all out war, one must have a lot of huevos to challenge the cops.

William Baglione explains, “A Brazilian jail is certainly a terrible place to be, although this possibility could be considered lucky. To get caught in these streets means more than just facing the judge and jail; it means risking your life a great deal.”



The ominous presence of the law doesn’t seem to faze Caur. The artist who hails from Vila Mariana, has put up more than two thousand throw ups in the city walls, defying the police with his rich expression of colors and shapes.


Rather than falling prey to the city’s corruption and poverty, Caur has made a name for himself, rising up to Brazil’s art scene and fashion circles. Today he is recognized as a major force in Brazil’s street art and design scene.
