Juxtapoz 15th Anniversary Art Auction: Travis Millard
Monday September 21, 2009

Travis Millard (Juxtapoz #87) creates some of the quirkiest and most endearing drawings full of characters it's tough not to relate to. Good thing he's the next artist up in our 15th Anniversary Art Auction.

Elise Hennigan: What were some of your early artistic influences?

Travis Millard: The Muppets, Mad Magazine, rap tapes, punk tapes, heavy metal tapes, horror movies, rated R comedies, skateboarding, cartoons, suburb drugs, early MTV, and anything else that seemed controversial to my parents... little has changed.

Your work is hilarious and often uses language to drive home an ironic point. Do you find that you can best express yourself through humor?

It feels better than crying and cussing all over the paper.

If you could be any type of animal, what would it be?

A business dragon.

Any words to share about the piece that you donated for the auction?

No big whoop!

What are you working on for the rest of 2009?

After this interview, the field is wide open, but I'm doing alright, getting good grades, the future’s so bright I could shit my pants.
