Eine (Juxtapoz #95) is scary. No, he’s a vandal. Even a monster. All these monikers could be attributed to this veteran graffiti writer if you simply accept his notorious street artwork at face value. That would be a terrible mistake, however, as the prolific street and gallery artist has deliberately transformed the way in which a growing global audience looks at public space. –Katie Zuppann

“’There’s a big difference between street art and graffiti, I think…. Graffiti is the best thing in the world but it’s fundamentally stupid. Graffiti writers do it purely for themselves and other writers. My avenue of self-expression has changed from strains to street art. Street artists consider the viewing public when working out what they’re going to do. It’s more of an art form…. I thought about putting my signature on my letters and didn’t, because then people would think it’s graffiti.’

“When asked about the conflicts between writers and warring crews inherent in graffiti, he explains, ‘That’s so negative, it’s all really boring. One of the reasons I did my website in Care Bears is that if you look at other graff artist’s websites it’s all so serious with dripping paint and fading and the like; but really it isn’t so serious. It’s like, fuck off, you’re not such a gangster.’”
