Chatting with Robert Williams at Northridge Opening x At Home
Wednesday February 24, 2010 |
![]() “As it turned out, unfashionable and foolish to be late for the West Coast opening of Robert Williams’ Conceptual Realism show at Cal State University at Northridge last Saturday, March 20th,” reports Juxtapoz CEO Gwynned Vitello. “Hot rods and a party band marked the spot on a sprawling campus, as fans and friends ushered in early to revel in a colorful pastiche of social commentary.” “Gazing into a Robert Williams is like prying open a lush peach or unearthing a mossy rock. Detail and truth gush forward like you’ve never seen them, and in case a detail is missed, each piece is accompanied by a personally penned essay from the Man himself.
“But this was opening night, celebration and time to park the cerebral once in a while. I mean, being greeted by his Technicolor nine-foot statues was like being ushered into grown-up Disneyland. And a personal greeting from the irrepressible Candy Clark of American Graffiti fame made the night officially deep and dizzying, no 3D glasses required.”
