Seripop is a design-duo: Chloe Lum and Yannick Desranleau—based in Montreal, Canada. Driven by a DIY underground music scene, they create posters and artwork for their musicians (including their own band, AIDS Wolf) as well as fine art, experimenting with surrealist and psychedelic imagery.

How do you feel right now?

Yannick: Fine, thank you                
Chloe: Pretty good, just waking up  and about to have breakfast and  go to the studio. We’re printing a monolith right now so I’m both really excited and really tired. Long days and night on the press.

If you could wake up in a different place tomorrow morning, where would it be and what would you do?

Yannick: I guess I would wake up at the studio instead of my house and I’ll be printing stuff. I don’t see how any other parallel universe could happen.
Chloe: I wouldn’t mind waking up to the same life  I have, but in another city.

If you lost your creative skill, how would you see yourself making a living?

Yannick: Busking (doing covers, of course).
Chloe: At this point I’m not sure if I could.

If you could punch one living contemporary artist, who would it be?

Yannick : Carl Andre with a Nan Goldin mask.
Chloe : He already knows who he is.

Was your first kiss worth writing a song about?

Yannick: I guess. It would be a lame short shitty awkward song with polyrythms and atonality, No repetition. Not catchy at all.
Chloe:It was in the parking lot of a mall, so probably not.

At what point were you particularly happy?

Yannick: I don’t think that ever happened.
Chloe: Today.

No regrets allowed, but there must have been one?

Yannick: I guess not figuring out I was an artist before 18.
Chloe: It’s better to regret something you have done then to regret something you haven’t done.

What trait do your friends have in common?

Yannick: Loud mouthed nerds.
Chloe: They are all scroungy fuckin’ jammers.

If you had to evacuate your home or studio, what's the one thing you would grab?
Yannick: A pair of pants
Chloe: My cats, and if a I had a free hand the doodle Savage Pencil did for us.

Greatest love of your life?

Yannick: My creative partner.
Chloe: Yannick.

What is your favorite vice?

Yannick: Reading the news.
Chloe: Crate diggin’.

When you blow out the birthday candles, what do you wish for?

Yannick: Just doesn’t happen.
Chloe: I don’t remember the last time I had candles to blow…


If you could play a character from a favorite film or TV show for a day, who would it be?

Yannick: The moustache dude in Money by Bresson.
Chloe: Franz Biberkopf.

Do you ever lie?

Yannick: I’m about to lie down and take a nap.
Chloe: I’m lying right now.

Do you think viewers understand the intent of your work?

Yannick: Not so sure. But, this is for me to make available the vulgarization of the content of my work.
Chloe: Fucked if I know, other people are a pretty big question mark to me.

What virtue can you do without?

Yannick: Faith.
Chloe: Modesty.

Do you even notice when you're swearing?

Yanick: Usually.
Chloe: No.

What has been your proudest moment?

Yannick: Happens each time a project gets done.
Chloe: Every time we pick up a stack of prints back from the cutter.

What would you like to be remembered for?

Yannick: My body of work.
Chloe: Doing things and makin’ stuff.

How would you prefer to die? 

Yannick: Dying.
Chloe: Hundred-sided
