Fascinated with ecocatastrophe, biology and the science of evolution, Miso has sought to fabricate a world in which strange creatures, born of her making, exist and thrive among us.

Today, I feel:
A bit beat up… I’m pretty exhausted.

If you had three wishes, what would they be?
Eat whatever I want and never get fat, ability to read minds, and never have to wait for anything or anyone.

Do you consider yourself a funny person?
I’ve been told that I’m funny, but I get “serious” a lot too.

If you had one magic power, what would it be?
I would like to breathe underwater with no help.

Something that makes you happy?
When I’m finished with a piece. I get really giddy.

Something that makes you mad?
When I can’t finish a piece, but that rarely ever happens.

What was your favorite subject in elementary school?
I guess I would say history. I knew I hated math and still do. I’ll be lucky if I can count how many pieces I have in a show.

If you feel a creative block, what do you do to jumpstart inspiration?
I’ll go on a mini road trip alone and take my sketchbook with me. I usually run off to Big Bear a lot, it’s the closest place around, plus I love the drive.

When someone is taking a photo, do you smile for the camera or turn your head?
This is the strangest thing, I’m also a photographer, and I never have a problem taking my own or other peoples’ photos… but when it comes to someone else taking my photo or video taping me, I freak. All of a sudden I freeze and just stare into the camera looking like a dork. I hate it when that happens.

Are you a social network enthusiast? (eg Do you post photos on Facebook; listen to music on MySpace; post to YouTube, etc?)
Lol, ok I know this might sound crazy, but I don’t have a Facebook account and I’m never on Myspace; to be honest I just don’t like it. I prefer using my blog and websites to let people know what’s going on in life, at lease the parts that count, everything else is secondary.

What is a quality you don’t like about yourself?
I’m a bit neurotic and I tent to overly obsess about random things too much. It gets so bad I can’t sleep at night.

Last good book you read?
Perfume by Patrick Suskind.

Who has had the most impact on your life?
It’s hard to say one particular person, because there are some many people that influence my life, but if I have to say one person, I guess I would say Gary Baseman. He’s a really close friend of mine and a great mentor.

Are you spiritual?
No, I would like to be more Jungian, but I think and act more Freudian.

One word to describe your artwork?
Pathological.

What’s missing in your life?
Time. I always need more or less time.

Are you a pet person?
Yes, I love animals, the stranger the better! I once had a 19 year old turtle. I had her when she was a baby, and raised her for 19 years, then one day I come home to find out that my mom lost her. I never got over that!

Is your artwork understood?
Probably not, but that’s ok. I prefer to keep my secrets to myself.

The most trouble you’ve ever gotten into:
Shit, that would take years to sort out. An easier question would be “what trouble hadn’t you gotten into this week?”

Where do you imagine yourself in five years?
Hard to say, I don’t even know what I’m doing next week let alone imagine myself in five years.

Open to the public, the reception for Miso's The Cold Returns takes place this Saturday, January 16, and the show will be on view until February 6, 2010.
