Hintro2
Continuing our discussion with street and studio artist Hush, we now present the interview All Eyes on Hush, Part II. Here, we hear Hush discuss his future, competition with other artists, and his thoughts on Banksy.

Helen Soteriou: Did you ever think you would get to this stage?

Hush: I probably think I did. I probably thought I would.

There does come a point where things spiral, and that’s really out of your hands, and it’s up to the people buying your work.  All you can do is work that is good, and you have to be yourself because I suppose a lot of people can start painting or making work to try and get on to something, whereas I was just doing this and I thought it would take-off.

Are you still spraying walls?

Yes, when I feel like it. I don’t do that much now.

People seeing it and mentioning that it is there, it’s that buzz. There is nothing better than sticking-up work on walls with people going past it.

What is your take on the Banksy phenomenon?

He has definitely pushed the movement forward, and really because of him everyone is where they are now. It is like the conceptualists and Damien Hurst, you always have a spokesman that represents that scene.

Do you get on with all the other artists or is everyone really competitive?

No, I don’t think anyone is competitive at all. It is surprising how I can ring any artist in the world and they will give you a bed. The scene is cool like that.

Do you think street art can stand the test of time? Do you think it will be around in 5 - 10 years time?

It always has and always will; it just progresses.

Who inspires you?

I like contemporary painters…there isn’t any art that I don’t like.

What does 2010 hold for Hush?

I have a solo show with 'the Art Lounge' in Redchurch Street, Shoreditch, London, starting on the 12th November, 2009.

White Walls/ The Shooting Gallery, San Francisco, May 2010.

Anonymous Contemporary Art Gallery, New York, October 2010.

Is there anything else you would like to say?

Thanks to all the guys who continue to support my work.
