A Day with Porous Walker
Thursday August 14, 2008

Photographer Isaac Mckay-Randozzi recently spent a day with artist Porous Walker in his Napa, California-based abode.

We could go on and on about the quirky wonders of this man’s mind and artwork, but chances are, you’re already familiar with it. If, by some horrible oversight, you are not yet familiar with Walker, it looks like this is your lucky day.

Words and photos by Isaac Mckay-Randozzi:

I met Porous a few years ago in downtown Oakland. At the time he was moving bails of hay that was in a gallery onto a large flatbed truck. It was part of an art exhibit that Eleanor Coppola had produced. Over the years we became friends and have collaborated on things ranging from art shows, to fist fights between ghosts, and Mrs. Berenstien Bear. If there ever was a random genius, it is Porous Walker.

Recently, my fiancé, daughter, and I went over to spend a day at his place in Napa. We had a bar-b-q, drank beer, and talked about arty type crap.

Shortly after we got there, Porous, Ivan and I had to pick up some stuff at the store. We forgot coal and some other equally vital bbqing items.

Mr. Walker works for winery owned by a famous director as its creative marketing director. Here he does a little "creative marketing" on another wine company's display.

They had a cool beach set up, real sand and straw huts.

The supplies were gathered.

For some reason he bought us dudes some "natural hardening agent", if you catch my drift. We each took four, hoping that the effects would hold off until we had gone home with our significant others.

Cari, Porous' wife. She bears the burden of dealing with him on a day to day basis. I'm not sure if we should be happy for her, or pity her.

Not sure if it's done yet, but I think this is a model of how he wants his grave to look.

Manning the bbq on a summer day; it don't get much better.

The Huf store/brand/clothing label is putting out some shirts with Porous' work. Two shirts and a print have been released

This broad doesn't mess around...

...and neither does she.
