As you have probably already read, we did a feature on Shawn Stussy in the August issue of Juxtapoz. While I was doing the interview, my girlfriend was shooting Super 8 footage that she wasn't quite sure if the footage she was capturing was any good. It actually turned out really cool, got that vintage vibe, so after finishing a few other film projects, she ran it by Mr Stussy, he gave the okay, and she put this together for us.
What you will see in the Shawn Stussy x Juxtapoz short film:
1) S/Double Studio in Santa Barbara
2) Shawn Stussy dancing
3) The Santa Barbara Surf Museum
4) CR Stecyk's head and camera
5) Mahoney's office and probably his head
6) My beard, a few times
7) The destruction of the (possibly) oldest building in SB
8) Highway 101
9) Stussy's art supplies from over a decade ago
10) Surfboards
11) You will hear, not see, a dope song from a mix that Barnstormer artist, Chris Mendoza, gave me when I was in Brooklyn last year
12) Shawn and wife Paula posing for a picture session
13) Tom Adler's arm
14) A recreation or two of a Stussy signature
15) A hopeful ability to get you to buy this magazine in digital form so you can take it on the bus, airplane, or to the club, or whatever you do on your day's off
I like the grainy beach footage mixed with Stussy's headquarters. And Shawn was really cool and played it up for the camera a bit, dug around some of his secret boxes for us. I can't wait for the new Shawn Stussy line, S/Double, to make its appearance at a retail store near me. The dude is a legend, and you know the line will be top.
If you have yet to read the interview, which I might add was quite good and worth a few bucks, you can still do that by going to our webstore. But, if you don't want to wait for the mail, you can buy a digital subscription of a digital back issue and that is just as good.
Its the 21st century. A century at ease with the digital world.
