If you ever want to get yourself involved in some very clever, post-modern, dystopian short stories and novels, then I suggest getting the slightly new collection "The Complete Stories of J.G. Ballard."
If you ever listened to OK Computer and had a moment, or liked Joy Division, this is probably the writer for you. And if you just want one collection, go with Vermilion Sands.
I was looking for a good quote from him somewhere on the World Wide Web, and thanks to that wonderful Brainyquote.com, I found this, which is a good start to the Ballard world.
"Electronic aids, particularly domestic computers, will help the inner migration, the opting out of reality. Reality is no longer going to be the stuff out there, but the stuff inside your head. It's going to be commercial and nasty at the same time."
