Juxtapoz Blog

I'm the managing editor of Juxtapoz. It's my life. I write articles and I baby-sit content. I like things, don't like some things, am interested in more things, keep my blood sugar at manageable levels, read when I can, look at art for fun when I can, don't ride bikes, eat peanut butter sandwiches for lunch, miss newspapers, can't wait for my grandfather to create more art, waiting for Thom to call me for a chat, and had a dream last night where I found Thomas Pynchon at my local grocery store buying red plums.

We had a small run through with the lighting people today at the Factory Place Arts Complex, the home of the Juxtapoz party this Saturday night. Emily Shen, who has been running everything on the ground for the event for SA Studios, gave Lynzy Blair (who will be the mastermind of the hanging process) and I some time to sort of take everything in prior to getting art on walls.

The good thing is that Lynzy was excited. She didn't walk out and say peace out this ain't happening. We are in good hands. The space is huge, so I thought maybe it was daunting, but then I remembered big renovated brick warehouses are dope and gallerist's like this work.

You may walk in this way, you never know...

Emily working with the lighting team.

At first I thought the lift was a new post-post-post-pre-post modern installation, but in fact, that is being used for actual functions pertaining to the art show.

And look who it is... the great Juxtapoz photographer, Estevan Oriol, signing his newest book, LA Woman, for me. I did a little mini-chat with him for an upcoming book review . . .

The cover to the new book...

I just think of the person in Vienna, Vermont, Venice, Versailles, or Greenland (threw you off there) who opens to this spread, say a young man, and I wonder what he thinks... Think he has a new favorite photographer and a new place he wants to live? Just saying...

Such a good shot. Mind the gutter and my inability to keep my camera still.

And, by the way, has anyone seen the Ryan McGinley directed Levi's commercials?.... I'm into them. They make you want to buy Levi's, and therefore, are effective mini-pieces of commercial art.
