In It Together features dual showings Drill, Baby, Drill! by Nicholas Bohac and Matthew Rodriguez and Gathered Together by Saelee Oh and Jill Bliss at Tinlark Gallery in Hollywood.
Drill, Baby, Drill! is the Tinlark debut of mixed media artworks by Nicholas Bohac and Matthew Rodriguez. An MFA graduate of the San Francisco Art Institute, Nicholas Bohac combines printmaking, painting, drawing, and materials such as sand and foil to reconsider the landscape tradition, eliminating the idealization common in the genre and injecting, in its place, commentary on the ecological climate in which we coexist.
Matthew Rodriguez lives and works in Austin, Texas. His paintings, photography and public art convey political and social themes of environmental stewardship as well as addressing our unpredictable relationships with our loved ones. He disguises these hefty subject matters with both humor and finesse.
In the project room, Saelee Oh joins with Jill Bliss to create Gathered Together, a mixed media installation (shown) inspired by their 4th annual collaborative calendar project. Their created microcosms of detached yet connected elements remind us that although we may be isolated "islands" at times, we are never truly alone in the world.
In It Together runs thru December 6, 2008 but if you can’t make it out to Los Angeles, take a look at some of the work featured in the show here…
