Walrus TV Features Rene Almanza
Monday February 09, 2009

Born in the town of Nuevo León in Mexico in 1979, Rene Almanza began his work during his teenage years in the first underground comic books, fanzines and newspapers of Monterrey, Mexico, as well as poster making. Later, he became responsible for illustrations of the cultural section of the El Norte Newspaper where Almanza received many awards for his work in editorial illustration.  Rene Almanza is also a founding member of Gallery Art Crocodile, independent spaces dedicated to the dissemination of visual art.
On that note, in this week’s Walrus TV release, Rene Almanza discusses the secret to making his illustrations vibrant and full of life. Using continuous lines to help explain the energy in his work, he shares why he uses an organic technique to allow the ideas behind his work to take shape as he gives it form. Watch the video to learn more about his craft, and his thoughts on the new emerging artist movement.
