A three-man show featuring oil painters Brett Amory, Adam Cladwell, and David Choong Lee is coming to San Francisco’s little Mission spot, fabric8, in a show titled Tri-Product. All traditionally trained in Bay Area art schools, these three artists have each gone beyond the tried and true routes to blur the line between realism and abstraction, combining clean rendering with a not-so-realist style.

Brett Amory was born in Portsmouth, Virginia and moved to San Francisco in 1996 to study motion pictures at the Academy of Arts. After one drawing class, he switched his major to fine art and started his first body of work called “Waiting,” a series of paintings about the anticipation of the next moment, which he still continues to paint today.

Brett Amory is also one of the artists participating in our 15th Anniversary Auction. View his piece, Waiting, here.

Adam Caldwell’s paintings and drawings juxtapose elements of abstract expressionism and classical figuration. While at the California College of Arts and Crafts, he began to create collage drawings that layered disparate images on top of one another. He translated this method to oil painting, starting with an abstract background and then adding more photorealistic details, allowing the work to dictate its own construction.  The resulting palimpsest of figures and abstract shapes represents the conflicted and paradoxical emotions that underlie his work.

David Choong Lee is a native of Seoul, Korea who came to the United States to study at the Academy of Art, where he also began to teach soon after graduation. He first gained recognition from his provocative portraits of San Francisco street people, and is still admired for his amazing ability to render portraits and landscapes in a fine art manner but with a street art sensibility.

David Choong Lee is also one of the artists participating in our 15th Anniversary Auction. View his piece here.

Tri-Product will be on exhibit from November 5 through November 30 at fabric8 Galleries, 3318 22nd Street, San Francisco, and open 7 days a week.

The opening reception for Tri-Product will be held on Friday, November 6, from 7pm-10pm.
