This is Not a Photo Opportunity, Images by Mark Whitely
Sunday September 20, 2009

Mark Whiteley, the dynamic editor of our sister magazine, SLAP, has more up his sleeve than editorial aptitude.

Mark has long been recognized in the skating world as a progressive and soulful photographer whose work is heavily influenced by art. Which is why we are anxiously awaiting the upcoming release of his new book, This Is Not A Photo Opportunity, this October.

His collection is broken down into 3 sections: portraits, music and street/travel/snapshots (each includes a selection of skate action shots). The images form a personal narrative of Whiteley’s life, most of which he has spent at the intersection of several vibrant cultures.

Intimate behind-the-scenes shots; glossy studio portraits; blood, sweat and tears moments; skateboards, motorcycles, shotguns, tattoos; streets and stages; hard looks, soft smiles; legends and unknowns. All chronicle Whiteley’s unique view of skateboarding, music and art.

Personalities featured include Mark Gonzales, Thomas Campbell, Twist, Ghostface, and Jamie Thomas; locations include Alaska, Brazil, Japan, Ireland and California.

Stay tuned for more info on his book release.
