The Colorful Layers of Omar Chacon
Sunday March 28, 2010 |
![]() Color. Layers. Color. More layers. This is what enters our minds -- kind of like Homer’s blank mind full of frosted donuts -- as we look at the work of Omar Chacon. Originally from Bogota, Colombia, Omar Chacon received his MFA from SFAI. While in art school, Omar became captivated by the paintings of his maternal grandfather, Mario Suarez Negrelli.
Mario was a self-taught artist and though he made only seven paintings in his lifetime, his passion for art imbued his spirit. One of these paintings in particular, an abstract “dot” painting, directly inspired Omar’s own artistic path, and has been a continuing muse for his evolution with abstraction. His most recent body of work continues to be influenced by the intricate patterns and weavings found in the traditional folk art of South American indigenous peoples.
Pictures at an Exhibition, New Work by Omar Chacon is now on view at at Lincart Gallery in San Francisco
