The Art of Chadwick and Spector
Monday February 07, 2011
Untitled-26

Look closely and you can see it. The art duo of Chadwick & Spector have, since 1994, been working on "Museum Anatomy," a project in which they recreate paintings onto the human body. They create a final product of Chadwick, sometimes "unrecognizable as a human form, with an elaborate, detailed painting covering a portion of his body."

Laura Spector and Chadwick Gray's mission statement states: "Museum Anatomy is a collection of documentary photographs of works from museums around the world that have been recreated onto the human body. The artwork goes through a significant process until reaching the final outcome, a photograph of Chadwick, sometimes unrecognizable as a human form, with an elaborate, detailed painting covering a portion of his body. The recreated paintings of these historic portraits recapture the subjects in their own moment in history. The resulting photographs reveal a unification of art combining antiquity, history and technology in a contemporary context."

Quite incredible work. The photography is key, but the painting and the model's position is of extreme importance.
