Friday December 10, 2010 |
![]() Fresh off a solo show at Liner in NYC, Sylvia Ji returns to the West Coast with a solo show at Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City tomorrow night (December 11). And because it is that time of year, Corey Helford Gallery is giving away a 10" x 10" giclee print of Ji's painting "Black Elk" to the first 500 guests who arrive. That is friendly of them. We just read a short excerpt about the show that mentioned Ji employs Carolyn Niethammer’s book Daughters of the Earth: The Lives and Legends of American Indian Women as her muse. We found that to be interesting because Niethammer's book, upon research, explored the lives of Native American women beyond her earlier works based around the kitchen. For this particualr book Niethammer visited Apache girls' puberty ceremonies, Hopi basket dances and Pueblo corn dances. The context of the show is just interesting to us. Also, if you are interested, there will be Natalia Fabia, Joshua Petker, Ron English, Luke Chueh and more great new pieces in the loft! ![]() ![]() ![]() Sylvia Ji Shapeshifter Opening Reception Saturday, December 11, 2010 from 7‑10pm On View December 11 - December 31, 2010 Corey Helford Gallery Culver City, California
