Sean Stewart of the late SF gallery/shop Babylon Falling met up with this great illustrator and painter for a studio visit.

“We hosted an exhibition of his work at Babylon Falling in October of 2007 and although we did a studio visit I never got a chance to sit down and talk with him,” Sean writes. “As I got ready to leave San Francisco for good I figured I might as well try and pester him for an interview one last time.

“Before rushing over to the Zero Friends warehouse in the East Bay to flock a mannequin Robert sat patiently with me while I tried to lure him into talking about the evils of Disney. Although he never took the bait we did eventually touch on some of the darker corners of The Happiest Place On Earth. We also talked about graffiti, Mario Lanza, Big Trouble In Little China, and the legendary Doggie Diner.

“At just under 3 minutes the piece is short but I feel that it gives a good glimpse of his workspace, his influences, and the central role that humor plays in the work.
