Stanley Kubrick, the Photojournalist, Chicago, 1949
Sunday May 01, 2011 |
![]() Before Paths of Glory, Dr. Strangelove, 2001: A Space Odyssey, or The Shining, Stanley Kubrick was a freelance photographer for Look Magazine, and in 1949, was on assignment to cover the Windy City for a piece titled, “Chicago City of Contrast.” Yet what never changed from Kubrick's talented eye and vision was the drama he could capture in an image. Even as a young man on a photojournalist assignment, he captured a mood, whether it be racial divide, women in the workplace, nightlife, or just simply a city street, better than most could ever capture in a simple photography.
