Continuing their tradition of excellence, Corey Helford Gallery presents Vanity Bonfire, a solo exhibition of new works by artist Sean Christopher. For his first solo show in Los Angeles, Christopher will unveil a world of hidden meanings, symbols, and metaphors through a series of oil paintings, sculptures, and mixed mediums.
Representing a year and a half long process, Vanity Bonfire juxtaposes heavenly beauty against stark reality, creating a cohesive, multi-layered experience for the viewer. Things are not what they seem as candy coated veneers reveal dark subtle messages upon closer inspection.
Christopher’s opulent visual vocabulary reaches new heights in Vanity Bonfire as politically motivated soldiers disguised as rococo frosted three layer cakes with lubricated match sticks and peppermint appendages, intermingle with dripping blood cherries, sparkling dollar signs and cultured pearls plucked from a 13th Century tiara. Iconographic cakes, Louis XIV shoes, and Sacred Hearts form the metaphoric foundation for Vanity Bonfire, which is sure to delight the senses and challenge the mind. Open to the public, the reception for Vanity Bonfire will take place next Saturday, April 26th. Snag details at coreyhelfordgallery.com.
