 Raquel J. Alves’ needle painting on paper combined with collage on canvas makes for layered wonders of mixed media. Exploring movement and subtle gesture through everyday situations is her forte. “I create collages combining paper, wallpaper, canvas, paint and threads,” she tells us in an email. “As well as using the threads to explore movement and flow on the pieces, I stitch the outlines to the illustrations. I like the combination of materials and texture.”
