Project Completion: Swoon's Konbit Shelters in Haiti
Monday October 04, 2010 |
![]() We’ve been chronicling the progress of The Konbit Shelter Project, organized by artists Swoon and Ben Wolf to build sustainable housing in Haiti. The ambitious project has at last been completed. These domed houses have been the focal point of a team of volunteers spearheaded by well-known street artist Swoon over the past few months. Inspired to help after the devastation Haiti faced earlier this year, these new homes are a sustainable form of shelter meant to last, create a sense of community, and environmentally conscious as the primary material used is mud. Covered in an outside layer of plaster and fitted with custom carved wooden doors, the final homes look fantastic.
