Project Colorize Hits NYC
Wednesday July 02, 2008

The scorching sun, honking cars, and irate cab drivers did not prevent Project Colorize from freezing NYC still this week.
Inspired by Charlie Todd of the renegade prankster group Improve Everywhere, a public stunt took place a little past lunchtime causing quite a stir among Manhattanites and passerby. Actors dressed in all black wore the new color wayfarers and literally stopped traffic for 20 minutes at the unveiling of the first billboard by artist Ron English, one of five to go up in NYC.
Project Colorize, the brainchild of two iconic brands- Marie Claire magazine and Ray Ban- brings art back to the streets, turning NYC into an open art gallery for the month of July.
Other artists commissioned to display their unique artwork include Tara McPherson, Scott Alger, Queen Andrea, and Toofly. The artist had full creative freedom- the only restraints placed upon these artists were that their artwork was to incorporate top spring trends and Ray Ban’s new wayfarers.
