Nike opened the first Nike Sportswear store to hit the Americas in Mexico City on August 15th. Named Nike Sportswear 1902 to commemorate the founding of the Colonia Condesa, where it is situated in the heart of the largest city in the world, Mexico’s flagship store features the new lines of Nike Sportswear Apparel and Footwear.
To celebrate the opening, eight international artists were invited to each create a 4.5 square meter live art installation in the New Nike Sportswear store, 18 Teotihuacan, Colonia Condesa. Participating artists included: Jason Maloney (shown signing autographs,) Joe Ledbetter, Jesse Reno, Bigfoot, Carlos Ramos, Tixinda, Yurievi (Popwhore,) and 123Klan. The day before the live painting event went down, each of the artists swapped briefs between themselves and had only the evening to think over their design for the opening ceremony!
In a less spontaneous manner, Nike also invited each artist to design posters reflecting Mexico in their own unique style, in any medium they chose.
