Naked Is Always Nice: Block Lamp
Saturday April 17, 2010 |
![]() “Naked” light bulbs’ popularity has jumped in recent months. This classic piece by Design House Stockholm is a bestseller and part of the Museum of Modern Art’s permanent collection. Minimalist design is always a good look. “While experimenting with different glass casting techniques, Finnish designer Harri Koskinen came up with the idea of encasing a small light bulb in a glass block.
“The light emanating from the 15W bulb is reflected through the walls of the block, which can be placed on floors or tabletops. Available with a black, white or red cord.
Koskinen’s design provides a sort of architectural compromise: naked bulbs plus a funky ice cube structure around their light source.
