Mike Shine’s Flotsam Wonder Wagon for SF MOMA 75th Year
Monday January 25, 2010

Last weekend, Mike Shine exhibited a very successful installation at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art's 75th Anniversary celebration. If you were not able to see the Flotsam Wonder Wagon in person, you missed out on a weekend of carnival-inspired fun.

Mike Shine’s Flotsam Wonder Wagon parked outside the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, offering guests a look inside Shine’s ‘wagon’ (aka truck) which had been transformed into type of bedroom, complete with cot, knickknacks, paintings and drawings lining the walls, and handcrafted wooden buoys completing the personal habitat.

Outside the Wagon, Shine and his crew of face-painted clowns sang opera, lured passersby to play the milk bottle throw for prizes, and generally clowned around. Overall, the weekend provided a wonderfully cohesive escape from the real world. Mike Shine’s playful alter reality is one we’d gladly inhabit every day.
