Love and eternity explored in Amber B's SummerWinter
Thursday July 15, 2010 |
![]() Amber B’s upcoming Los Angeles SummerWinter show is inspired by romance and simplicity. She explains, “The exhibition is a hand-sewn world of mythical creatures, exploring the nature of opposites, and an eternal love that will never die.” “I started thinking about the SummerWinter concept about a year ago, it was a natural seasonal progression after my Autumn inspired show at colette in Paris. The way that the seasons are different in the Northern and Southern hemispheres and how opposites attract. That feeling that one would not exist without the other and the way that things all just become one in the end.
“The last solo I did in America was New York City so I am super excited for the West Coast. I am really excited to do a solo in LA; it's an amazing city full of talent and energy. After living here for over a year I am ready to show them what this little Aussie has up her sleeve!
“For this show I have taken a much more modern minimalist approach in my work which is inspired by my husband. I have always been about color but in this show I have kept the pallet strictly to black, white and grey. I have also experimented with other textiles and media for this show. Along with my sewn creatures, I have created a limited edition Ombré dyed scarf made especially for the show as a symbol of black and white becoming one (grey). My husband and I are also working on a short film that will be shown at the exhibition.
“The entire show centers around a single love story between the characters Summer and Winter who fall in love even though they live on opposite sides of the world. They consummate their love and dance a seasonal dance of love for eternity.”
