Local Art at the Bogobiri House in Lagos

“While in Lagos, I stayed at a funky little Ikoyi neighborhood hotel called the Bogobiri House. What this ramshackle and homey place lacked in conveniences associated with accommodations in richer countries, it more than made up for with character and activity. There was free entertainment during most evenings, such live jazz, hip-hop and poetry readings. Food was good here too – and super fiery hot.
The Bogobiri seemed to be especially popular with journalists and traveling artists. BBC celeb, Louis Theroux, and crew were staying there during my visit. As a live/work space and gallery for local artists, there were always lots of local artists and in-the-know Lagosians hanging out at the Bogobiri (the free WiFi probably didn't hurt its popularity as a destination either). The artwork on display was top notch stuff too! Just as good (and some even better than) what I'm accustomed to seeing in London. There was more than enough art to admire and ponder. Tons of it, actually. So much art, in fact, they had it stacked against the walls. The Bogobiri provided a brilliant introduction to Nigerian art and an excellent opportunity to meet some killer local artists.”
