Wednesday July 12, 2006
Stubborn Sideburn Studios is the design and illustration work of Tokyo-to-Seattle transplant Junichi Tsuneoka.
Junichi Tsuneoka was born and raised in Japan and upon graduating Waseda University in Tokyo, he has arrived in US at the end of 20th century. Then He studied graphic design at Cornish College of the Arts and he was hired by Seattle based design company, Modern Dog, as a graphic designer right after graduation.

The co-founders of Modern Dog, Robynne Raye and Michael Strassburger taught Junichi everything from design basics to the meaning of the word "mullet," almost everything you need to live in the USA.

There he developed design skills and encouraged to use a lot of his own illustration in his design projects. Over the past several years, he developed the style often described as cross between Japanese Comic (Manga) and graffiti. Some people also call it "California Roll Stylie." Now he is an independent illustrator having his own studio (STUDIO STUBBORN SIDEBURN) in Seattle.

Junichi will also be teaching intermediate graphic design class at School of Visual Concept in summer 2006 and upper level illustration class at Cornish College of the Arts in fall 2006.
