What started with a painting of his wife's portrait for her facebook profile, has amassed into a hefty facebook-following of people (the facebook group: “I'll Have My Portrait Painted by Matt Held”), hoping to be immortalized by his brush. If having one's portrait painted is the ultimate honor, than you could say that this practice is about democratization of art. Check out an interview with the artist here:
