Crazy 4 Cult at Gallery 1988
Tuesday July 17, 2007
The hours are counting down until Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles unveils its newest in a line of annual shows featuring much too much badassery. This show, entitled Crazy4Cult, features new work from over 50 artists reinterpreting their favorite cult films. As if that weren't enough to pack the opening up to its eyeballs in adoring fans, the reception will be hosted by Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier with cameos from Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead), Jason Mewes (Clerks), and Richard Kelley (Donnie Darko). The show will run from July 17-August 10 with the opening reception starting at 7pm on the 17th (that's tonight if you don't have a calendar handy). 1988 have gone all out for this show with limited prints available starting on July 20th and an ultra-limited run of 25 Circus Punks created by Reuben Rude. But wait, there's more! For only one installment of $15 you can have your very own copy of the show poster created by Chris Lee. Or if you think you have cult status on lock you can try your luck at guessing every movie reference featured on the poster. E-mail a list of those references to gallery1988(at)aol.com and you might be the one person selected to win a free show poster signed by Chris Lee and the Hollywood starlets in attendence, as well as artist proofs of the upcoming prints from Greg "Craola" Simkins and Matt Dangler. If you're not breathing heavy yet you might want to jam your thumb into a wall socket because you are probably dead. Or just go to the show. It's probably just as enlightening and less painful. www.nineteeneightyeight.com
