Blood is the New Black Fall/Holiday 2009 Lookbook
Wednesday August 26, 2009

Blood is the New Black just dropped their Fall/Holiday 2009 lookbook, which they will be introducing at Pool Tradeshow Las Vegas.

The line, as always, is a mish-mosh of our artists’ personal styles,” says founder Mitra Khayyam. “I can see nods to astral projection and punk rock. They want to always do something that is next to impossible on a t-shirt. It challenges our printers, and it challenges our customer’s notions of where t-shirt graphics should be placed.”

Further testing the waters of wearable art, Blood Is The New Black has expanded its venture to two new platforms. The first is a series with Baggu, emblazoning the totes – shaped after the iconic plastic grocery bag – with BITNB designs. For instance, an “Octopussy” Baggu by House of Holland designer Sophie Stephens will look great next to the Thanksgiving turkey. The second enterprise emerges as vinyl wallets with Burger And Friends, taking this classically unrefined form to new levels of artistry by covering it in sumi ink or a scrawled robbery note.

Having grown as an innovative t-shirt line since 2004, Khayyam says, “I decided to explore new ways to share our artist’s work and begin making Blood more of a lifestyle brand.” To accomplish this, BITNB will release two magazines a year featuring interviews with artists that make up the Blood family. In the first issue, readers can meet and also enjoy original artwork by Brendan Donnelly, Dan Monick, Cali DeWitt, and Brian Lichtenberg, as well as share a few words with Tegan and Sara, who are sporting a specially designed BITNB shirt by Milano Chow on the band’s new tour.

The Fall/Holiday 2009 line also includes inventive designs by Sumi Ink Club, Cali DeWitt, Demonbabies, Sophie Stephens, Josh Slater, Jfish/Kharma, Pete and Jo, Porous Walker, Keaton Heston, Hannah Stouffer, Bryan Ray Turcotte, Keren Richter, Matt W Moore, and Scott Barry. From Sumi Ink Club’s  Egytian collar-inspired “Collar,” a rainbow colored tribal collar piece, to Brendan Donnelly’s re-imagined Joy Division design with Arabic headline, the current collection prepares to blaze new trails.
