Artist to Watch: Alex Lukas
Sunday December 12, 2010

*Every Sunday, Juxtapoz.com will highlight an artist that we feel is currently on the cusp of a new level of critical and technical success. The artist we feature will not necessarily be unknown, nor will they be of a pre-established museum career. But they will be artists who have showcased progress in a new body of work that deserves continual examination. We will mostly look at the work itself and let the art speak. Today, we feature Philadelphia-based fine artist, Alex Lukas.

We have been fortunate that over the past few years, Alex Lukas, alumnist of Space 1026 and very much active with Cantab Publishing, has shown in San Francisco numerous times, allowing us to see the artist's work in person. That is very important with Alex's work, seeing it in person so you can catch the details and understand what the process may be.

Ink, Acrylic, watercolor, gouache and silk screen on paper are common materials that Lukas uses, combining all to create pleasantly serene but apocalyptic scenes of nature returning the favor upon metropolis' and downtown skyscrapers.

Jux.com visited Alex' studio last month, and will be featuring the artist's work in a future issue of the magazine.

Enjoy the work below.
