Montreal based tattooist and painter David R. Choquette will soon be unveiling his first ever solo exhibition of paintings in New York City at Last Rites Gallery in Chelsea on Saturday, March 6th.  Choquette will have approximately 15 brand new, never before seen paintings on display.  Choquette's successful participation in last year's New Breed group exhibition resulted in his work completely selling out.  We are very excited to have him back in the gallery, this time for his first solo in NYC!  Below is some information about this extremely talented artist.

David R. Choquette is a 29 year old Montreal based tattooist and painter. He's intrigued by the sense of discomfort that physical abnormalities cause. His portraits, often miniature, are aesthetic counter type to the popular standards. Obsessing over every square inch, he creates strange atmospheres where ugliness and beauty are hard to dissociate. With sharp details, he tries to communicate the sensibility of his inner world.
Choquette writes about his art, "Setting down to work, I never know what the hell will come out. The only thing that's for sure, the Devil is truly in the details!".

ABOUT THE GALLERY

Last Rites Gallery is New York's only gallery of dark art. Having opened in April 2008, the gallery has received accolades from places as diverse as Inked Magazine, Tattoo Society, Juxtapoz, Hi Fructose, NY Post, and the Channel 11 Morning News. Last Rites was founded by legendary painter and tattooist Paul Booth, an artist who has devoted his life to the evolution of his craft. In the tattoo industry, after years of public appearances and numerous international awards, Paul Booth is now a household name. He has been featured on networks such as CNN, MSNBC, DISCOVERY, A&E, TLC, MTV and VH1. Due to the macabre nature of his style, Paul has tattooed many major metal bands. As a result, in 2002, Rolling Stone Magazine dubbed Paul "The new king of rock tattoos." There is currently a two-year waiting list for his work. All shows at Last Rites are curated by gallery director Andrew Michael Ford. Ford has been profiled, interviewed and/or quoted by The New York Times, Washington Post, Philadelphia Inquirer, Village Voice, Timeout NY, Juxtapoz and National Public Radio's "All Things Considered".
