Zines, zines, zines.

A week ago I received a zine called 13 Months, from an Australian girl. It's not really a zine, its more like and envelope with a 3 pages letter. Its about a girl who had a bad relationship and was exploited by her boyfriend and his insane family. I got obsessed and I want to make a graphic story with it. I never tried a "more-than-one-page" comic story because I didn't know what to write about. I also just finished to read Blankets, by Craig Thompson (just released in Brazil) and was really inspired by it. When I got that letter, I thought that I finally found a nice script.
I got in touch with the girl who sent me the zine, since it was an anonimous one, and she said she got it at Sticky Institute, in Melbourne, Australia. I got in touch with them and they helped me to find the zine author. I got in touch with the girl who made the zine, and she allowed me use it. In fact, she got very excited about it, as I am.

At the same time I was looking for the girl, I received a book I ordered from Amazon, called "Whatcha Mean, What's a Zine?".

I bought an used copy for 87 cents! And it's like new! (Ok, I had to pay more U$7 for shipping). Anyway, it worth each penny (we don't really have pennies here in Brazil), I highly recommend it. It features short storys and illustration from a lot of cartoonists I admire, as John Porcelino, Souther Salazar, Jordan Crane; Eric Nakamura introduction, and so on. Well, reading (and seeing) this book just made more excited to start that graphic story (I don't like to call it 'comics' because it's a sad story), and it's a project I hope I can start soon.
(sorry if my English got confused) (I'm finally not 'flooding' anymore and can edit it)
